Viewer asks question about pond at Menominee Park Zoo
[I received this question from a viewer earlier today and promised him I would post it now and follow up with the parks director, posting a response when I got one.]
Would you please ask the parks director about the slimy, stinking pond that is inside the fence at the zoo.It is ugly unsanitary and a breeding ground for bugs. If it were in someone's yard the health dept. would make you fill it in.

I heard back from City of Oshkosh parks director Ray Mauer about this viewer question on Monday afternoon. Here is what his response was.
"I believe he may be speaking about the small pond inside the elk exhibit but I am not sure. This is a small, cooling pond for the elk. On a limited basis, we treat it to reduce the algae with the same chlorine tablets that we use at the Pollock pool. I hope that helps."
I then asked if that meant it was due for a treatment and, if so, when might it be done, to which he replied it was scheduled to be done that day (Monday). So by now I hope it has been treated. Thanks again to this viewer for contacting me and to our parks director for such a timely response.
