Oshkosh Public Museum lights up with Deck the Halls; Kids receive free admission, and adults only $3.50, during this exhibition
The Deck the Halls holiday experience at the Oshkosh Public
Museum opens on Saturday, November 18, 2017and will be on display until December
31. In staying true to its mission, the Museum is offering free admission to
children under age 18, and adult admission is only $3.50, during this annual
extravaganza.
Experience the historic Sawyer home decorated in its holiday
splendor, and the life-size Christmas Village exhibit windows showcase a
festive display of recreated scenes from favorite holiday movies. At the center
of it all is the unbelievably-detailed wooden toy circus made in the 1940s by
Marshall and Ruth Magnusen for their sons, Karl and Jim. And yes, the Museum
Elves will be back and are already planning on how to stump visitors with their
new hiding places.
The Oshkosh Public Museum Auxiliary’s Annual Gala is on
Thursday, November 16, from 5:30-7:30 pm. Attendees can explore the new People
of the Waters exhibition and enjoy an evening filled with music, holiday cheer,
and an incredible array of savory hors d’oeuvres and decadent desserts while
viewing the beautiful holiday decorations. John and Marilyn Rogge will give a
special musical performance at 6 pm. Admission is $15 to support the Oshkosh
Public Museum. The evening will also include a cash bar and cash-and-carry
basket raffle and silent auction (credit cards not accepted). The public is
welcome.
This winter, the Museum will host REPLAY, a delightful,
whimsical, and incredibly striking exhibition that is the ultimate flashback to
the 80s, combining mediums and artists the world over. With more than 30 pieces
of artwork on display, creatively using both traditional and unexpected media,
REPLAY is intended to be nostalgic as it harkens back to the stories, games and
experiences of this iconic era. REPLAY will be on display from February 18 to
May 13, 2018.
The Oshkosh Public Museum is located at 1331 Algoma
Boulevard. Regular hours are Tuesday–Saturday from 10 am–4:30 pm and Sunday
from 1 pm–4:30 pm. The Museum will be closed on November 23 and December 24–26
for the holidays. Effective January 1, 2018, general admission to the Museum
will be Adults $8, Seniors $6, College Students $6, and Children (age 6-17) $4.
