100 block taxes paid in full

It was a very pleasant surprise to see that Ben Ganther and his business partners in the 100 Block building on N. Main Street have paid in full, not only their delinquent taxes for the 2004 tax year, but the taxes for 2005 as well. This latter tax bill was paid much sooner than we'd first understood it would be. As a fellow taxpayer I'd like to say thank you to Mr. Ganther and his partners for finally doing the right thing and getting this debt taken care of. I hope the taxes will remain current in the future. Now if others who have tax delinquencies, not only to the city or county, but the state as well, would only follow suit.

I got the feeling from the article in the newspaper that he didn't do it because it was the right thing to do, he did it because it made the most financial sense to do it right now. It was a business decision, not a 'good member of society' decision.

Originally we were told the taxes would not be paid at this time, in essence, for strategic type business reasons. It is possible they were now paid and ahead of schedule because of other business reasons, (a liquor license transfer would be such a reason) and such speculation is certainly reasonable. But whatever Mr. Ganther's and his partners' reasons, I am grateful they finally paid them and the local governments have that money to assist with operations, etc. Can you imagine what a mess we'd have on our hands if no one paid their taxes on time?
