WIS 21 interchange construction meetings in Winnebago County
Conversation to focus on construction schedule for US 41 Project

(Green Bay) The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) Northeast Region office in Green Bay is holding a business-only meeting and a preconstruction public information meeting to discuss upcoming construction, road closures and alternative routes for the US 41/WIS 21 interchange project in Oshkosh.

Both meetings will take place on Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at the Winnebago County Highway Department, 901 West County Road Y, Oshkosh. The business-only meeting is from noon to 2 p.m. with a brief presentation at 12:15 p.m. The general public information meeting will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. This meeting will have an open house format with a presentation at 5:15 p.m.

In 2012, the WIS 21 interchange will be reconstructed so that WIS 21 passes over US 41.  The project includes the construction of multi-lane roundabouts at the WIS 21 intersections with Washburn and Koeller streets and at the ramp terminals. The staging of construction will enhance safety and minimize travel delay. Staging includes temporary pavement widening and a temporary US 41 bypass at WIS 21 to maintain two travel lanes in each direction during the project.

In fall of 2011, the northbound US 41 ramps will be closed for 3 weeks to prepare for 2012 construction. During this time WIS 21 will remain open to traffic, along with all southbound US 41 ramps. Following this brief construction, the WIS 21 interchange will remain open through the winter.

Beginning in March 2012, the interchange will close for reconstruction and WIS 21 will shut to through traffic from Washburn to Koeller streets. By November 2012, the WIS 21 interchange and all ramps will reopen. Construction on northbound US 41 lanes will continue through July 2013.

This project will affect travel in the Oshkosh area and WisDOT encourages you to attend to learn more about the upcoming construction and schedule provide input and ask questions. Construction displays and schedule information will be available. If you cannot attend the meeting and would like more information, please contact Project Manager Tom Buchholz at (920) 492-0142 or send e-mail to Tom.buchholz@dot.wi.gov. The meeting facility is wheelchair accessible. Hearing impaired persons needing assistance may call the Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay System (dial 711). To allow time for arranging assistance, please call no later than three working days prior to the meeting.
