Freedom to GO Program launched in Oshkosh
Starting yesterday, October 6th, GO Transit will provide free bus service on Saturdays to seniors and persons with disabilities. We call it our “Freedom to GO” Program. The program is designed to expand transportation options and promote our bus service to seniors and persons with disabilities in the City of Oshkosh.
How to qualify?
To qualify, seniors and persons with disabilities will need to show the bus driver one of the forms of ID shown in the table below. Seniors age 60 and over qualify for the program by showing the bus driver any proof of age or their Senior Dial-a-Ride card. Persons with disabilities qualify by showing the bus driver their ADA paratransit card (green or yellow) or valid Medicare card.
What bus routes are free?
Qualifying riders can ride all GO Transit bus routes and Route 10 (Neenah service) for free on Saturdays.
Why should I ride the bus?
In addition to free rides, the bus provides freedom and mobility. Using the bus does not require a reservation, just board the bus and GO. The bus provides transportation to all the important destinations, like grocery stores, banks, hospitals, shopping centers, parks, library, museum, and more. Outside of this program, the bus fare for seniors and qualifying persons with disabilities is only 50 cents for all trips in the City.
Is the bus accessible?
Yes. All buses include: a ramp for boarding mobility devices; kneeling capability (bus lowers to make stepping onto the bus easier); and stop announcements by the driver. Additionally, our professional bus drivers are excellent sources of information and can answer most questions as you board or at the downtown transit center (110 Pearl Ave.). While operating the bus, our drivers are focused on getting you safely to your destination.
What if I don’t know how to use the bus?
GO Transit provides individual travel training upon request. We’d be more than happy to answer your questions by phone or email (920.232.5340 or transit@ci.oshkosh.wi.us). We can also arrange to have a travel trainer ride with you and provide guidance on how to ride the bus.
How long does the program last?
This special promotion will end on 3/30/2013.
